Flag of the Libras language

Libras is the Brazilian Sign Language, recognized by law as a legal means of communication and expression of Brazil's Deaf community. It is a complete language, with its own grammar, and not a version of Portuguese made with the hands.

For Portuguese speakers

Libras is a visual-spatial language: the space in front of the body, the direction of movements and facial expressions are part of the grammar. Learning Libras broadens inclusion and lets you talk with Deaf people in the family, at school and at work.
