Flag of the Danish language

Danish is the official language of Denmark and is also spoken in the Faroe Islands and Greenland. It belongs to the North Germanic family and is very close to Norwegian and Swedish, which makes it easier to understand your Scandinavian neighbors.

For Portuguese speakers

The spelling is relatively regular, but pronunciation is the big challenge, with varied vowels, soft consonants and the so-called stød, a pause in the throat. The grammar is simpler than German: two genders (common and neuter) and verbs that don't change by person.

  • Two genders and the definite article in the ending
  • Verbs that don't vary by person
  • Guided pronunciation
