Flag of the Arabic language

Arabic is an official language in more than twenty countries and is the language of the Islamic tradition, of a rich literature and of great historical advances in science and mathematics. It is also the source of many Portuguese words, such as açúcar, azeite, almofada and oxalá.

For Portuguese speakers

The alphabet has 28 letters and is written from right to left, with letters that change shape depending on their position in the word. The big idea of the grammar is the three-consonant root, which generates families of words. There is also a difference between standard written Arabic and the spoken dialects.

  • Alphabet and right-to-left writing
  • Three-letter roots and word formation
  • Transliteration so you can read before mastering the alphabet
